The bells of the Mission San Gabriel
San Gabriel was named after the San Gabriel Mission, which is located at 428 Mission Drive within the city. The history of San Gabriel starts in 1771 with the founding of the Mission San Gabriel, the fourth of the California Missions to be built. Lying just south of San Marino and north of Rosemead, San Gabriel became one of the first townships to be established in Los Angeles county.
In terms of it’s residences, the city of San Gabriel primarily offers single family homes with an average of 2-3 bedrooms. Regardless of the long withstanding Mission and surrounding historical structures, most of the structures for the residential neighborhoods in San Gabriel do not pre-date the 1930’s. Many family oriented neighborhoods were developed in San Gabriel post WWII.
